Proposal · prepared for Dawson of Stamford · 19 May 2026

A few specific fixes for dawsonofstamford.com.

Dawson of Stamford · Stamford · website rebuild

I rebuild small-business sites in my spare time when I can see they are leaving conversions on the table. Three things stood out the moment I opened dawsonofstamford.com on a phone over coffee on Tuesday. Three findings below, then a working rebuild you can click through.

Three findings, observed on the live site

What the live site is leaving on the table.

Walked through dawsonofstamford.com on a phone, then on a laptop, on 19 May 2026.

01

A 51-year jeweller still serving the homepage over http:// in 2026, no https redirect.

Observation
dawsonofstamford.com resolves only on http://www.dawsonofstamford.com. There is no https variant. Modern Chrome, Safari and Firefox flag the address bar as "Not Secure" before a visitor has read the shop name. For a business that takes deposits on bespoke commissions and emails valuation paperwork, that warning is the first thing a new customer sees, ahead of the 1974 founding, the 6 Red Lion Square address, and the Birdeye 4.1 across 38 reviews.
After rebuild
After rebuild: served as static HTML on Vercel’s edge, https-only with HSTS and TLS 1.3, custom dawsonofstamford.com cert auto-renewing. The address bar shows the lock, not the warning. Sub-100 ms first byte across the UK.
02

No JewelryStore, AntiqueStore or LocalBusiness schema, so Google cannot see 51 years, the Grade II* building, or the Mon to Sat 9 to 5 hours.

Observation
A crawl of the live site finds no application/ld+json on any page. No JewelryStore, no AntiqueStore, no LocalBusiness, no PostalAddress, no openingHours. The 38 reviews on Birdeye and the recurring "excellent service" customer language are not surfaced in any structured form. Google’s answer panel for "jeweller Stamford" therefore ranks the chains and the directory aggregators ahead of the only Mercury statue in town.
After rebuild
After rebuild: a single JSON-LD @graph at build time with JewelryStore + AntiqueStore + LocalBusiness, full PostalAddress on PE9 2AJ, telephone in E.164, openingHoursSpecification across Monday to Saturday, aggregateRating 4.1 from 38 reviews, plus a FAQPage block answering the questions customers actually ring in with. The Stamford long-tail starts surfacing the right shop.
03

The 2015 stone-facade restoration and the 1.9m gilded Mercury statue, the single most photogenic moment in 51 years, never appear on the homepage.

Observation
The shopfront makeover in 2015, a seven-month restoration that stripped 160 years of paint off the Georgian-stone facade with a £35,000 grant from South Kesteven District Council, won the Stamford Civic Society conservation award. In 2016 a 1.9m gilded Mercury statue was reinstated on the roofline, the original having disappeared in the late 1800s. The Stamford Mercury reported it. Stamford Civic Society listed it. Neither moment, nor any photograph of the Mercury, is on the homepage of dawsonofstamford.com. The Squarespace template puts a stock-style product grid at the top and the heritage in /about.
After rebuild
After rebuild: a dark-band heritage section as the emotional centre of the page, with the 1480s timber frame, the 1848 north shopfront, the 2015 stone-blasting, and the 2016 gilded Mercury laid out as a six-line timeline. The Civic Society award credited, the Stamford Mercury article linked. The conservation story stops being a footnote.

Next step

If the proposal lands.

Reply with two or three 20-minute slots in the next ten days for a video call. I take on three Lincolnshire builds this quarter, and the first confirmed wins the slot. If I do not hear back by 29 May 2026, the proposal site comes down.
